Spreading across an impressive area of 5 hectares by 13 acres and instantly taking a breath away… meet Windsor Castle. Not only the largest but also the oldest occupied by the Royals Castle in the world. Her Majesty The Queen enjoys spending her private time here. Celebrated with this moment when the flag is flying from the Castle’s Round Tower as per the Royal Standard.

The heritage of Windsor Castle is a result of historical influences particularly marked by four monarchs: William the Conqueror, the Castle’s founder, Edward III, the initiator of renovation in line with this new Gothic style; Charles II, the one who transformed one of the parts of the Castle, the Upper Ward, into a baroque palace; and George VI, the initiator of change in interior design such as the ancient fabric that decorate the building.

The Castle went through a restoration period after 1992, the 20th of November, costing around £40 million. This happened as a result of a massive fire, which took place in the Castle.

Over 100 rooms were damaged by either fire or the water used to extinguish the fire. The restoration phase took 5 years and the official completion date was 20 November 1997, marking the 50th wedding anniversary of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh
